How to enhance children's understanding of prepositions?

Enhancing the understanding of prepositions

Around the age of 2, children usually begin to refine their grammar skills and start using prepositions. Some of the early prepositions children can comprehend are e.g. 'in', 'on', 'under'. Between the ages 3 - 4, they can understand prepositions such as 'next to', 'behind', 'between', 'in front'. This understanding can be nurtured in a  fun way during playtime simply by arranging objects such as little cars or shapes in different positions and constructing grammatically correct sentences.

For example:
'The red car is behind the car wash curtain.'
'The blue car is next to the car wash'
'The green car is in front of the car park.'

This also supports the auditory memory and spatial awareness.
